The Toasty Overview

Left the world of cubicles to start my own creative design agency. A new father to the perfect daughter with the best wife ever. Typically found working in the backyard with my dogs and a cigar... and possibly a pint... or glass of vino.

Life is good.

Interesting Thought

"For the average person in the world who lives life and considers their life boring or uninspiring... it's because they've made no attempt to gain knowledge and information that will inspire them. They're so hypnotized by their environment through the media, through television, through people living and creating ideals... that everybody struggles to become, in terms of physical appearance and definitions of beauty and valor, which are all illusions. Most people surrender and live their life in mediocracy. And they may live that life and their desire may never really rise to the surface..."

- from the 2004 movie What the #$*! Do We (K)now!?

You should know that movie is a joke in the academic circles, where they've exposed its ridiculous and preposterous claims for the nonsense that they really are. See wikipedia for just a start:

It's new age religion disguised as "science."

BTW, you'd probably like Manufacturing Consent, by Noam Chomsky. Along the lines of your quote, but from someone a little more respected (i.e. considered one of the greatest minds of our time). A brief excerpt/interview:

Worth the read; it's not that long. The end is great. Try not to dismiss it out of hand so quickly and think about it. Agree or disagree; it's an interesting thought.

well there ya go. I dug the quote for face value and thought there were interesting bits here and there but low and behold, they were all BS... go figure.

LOVED the bit on Chomsky and, personally, it makes a lot of sense. I probably fall in that 80% of uneducated people that they're trying to keep distracted.
