The Toasty Overview

Left the world of cubicles to start my own creative design agency. A new father to the perfect daughter with the best wife ever. Typically found working in the backyard with my dogs and a cigar... and possibly a pint... or glass of vino.

Life is good.

Thanksgiving 2009 WOOHOO!

This year was our first year to host Thanksgiving. It was also the first time Jen cooked this much food. And my first time cooking a turkey. If you want the short version: no one got sick thus: SUCCESS!

We actually started all the prep work the night before to ease the chaos on the day of. We had a few appetizers and munchies but nothing major so people wouldn't load up before the grand meal. Jen's menu included:

  • herb rubbed turkey breast
  • garlic and cheese mashed potatoes
  • bacon and breadcrumb brussel sprout caserole
  • sausage, chestnuts and souredough bread dressing
  • saute green beans and almonds
  • cranberry and pear chutney
  • cranberry jelly (from the can with the ribbed effect)
  • sweet potatoe caserol (Mom O.)
  • homemade pumpkin pie
  • homemade chocolate and pecan pie (Mom O.)

Everything went off without a hitch! Since Tim doesn't like pumpkin pie (seriously, what's up with that?) we gave him a Kit-Kat on a plate with whipped creme. He seemed to like it!

It was a lot of work and I helped where I could and when Jen would let me in the kitchen. But I was really impressed with just how well everything turned out. Not digging at Jen at all but its tough to coordinate all that food and still have it be warm and timed just right. Towards the end, it got a little hectic with everything coming out at the same time but that was really it.

Kudos to Jen. It was an AMAZING Thanksgiving meal.

Next year, we'll have our fancy new, big-ass table (it'll be here for Christmas dinner too) that will seat a bunch of peeps so we'll be sure to open our doors again and making this a new tradition! Here's some pics:

It truly was a perfect Thanksgiving! I can't think of a warmer home and more gracious hosts to pass the "holiday torch" to....sincere thanks for a wonderful Thanksgiving :-)

Sounds yummy... maybe we'll have to make it out that way next year for Thanksgiving. Jay likes brussel sprouts and I never cook them :)
